CIBER is a consortium dependent of the Institute de Salud Carlos III (Institute of Health Carlos III) through the Spain's Ministry of Science and Innovation and co-financed with ERDF and ESF funds. European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) “A way to make Europe”. European Social Fund (ESF) “The ESF invests in your future”.
Its thematic area for Cancer (CIBERONC) was created in early 2017 and is made up of 50 research groups from 27 institutions in the consortium including hospitals, universities and research centres.
The groups work jointly on six major Research Programmes: Colon and gastrointestinal cancer; Breast cancer; Lung cancer and cancer of the respiratory tracts; Haematological tumours; Low prevalence tumours and Molecular mechanisms of tumour progression.
The creation of this area represents a great chance to integrate the excellent basic research currently being done in Spain in clinical reality.
